The Emilio e Annabianca Vedova Foundation presents “Vedova accendi la luce“, an exhibition of works by Georg Baselitz specially painted during 2020. It is a series of paintings divided into two themes dedicated to his wife Elke Baselitz and to Emilio Vedova.
Each series is clearly recognizable as such by the consistency of the stylistic motif and is also characterized by witty wordplays, the Witz, with which the artist expresses the titles.
All the canvases are large in size (300×212 cm) with vertical development, and mark out the white walls built specifically inside the Magazzino del Sale creating a rigorous and rhythmic installation.
The seven canvases dedicated to Vedova are for the most part monochrome, and the titles offer the public the opportunity to grasp some details regarding the relationship between the artist and his longtime friend Emilio Vedova.
Ten canvases are dedicated to his wife and to “Speiseeis” (Ice Cream). Philip Rylands describes them as follows: “The dense magma of pigment, of matière, the main characteristic of Baselitz’s most expressionist paintings, has dissolved. […] They are poetic and cheerful works.”
