The art installation ” Senza Terra Pomerio” (Without Land Pomerium) is a collateral event of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The work of the collective of 50 artists and coordinated by the curator Boris Brollo is an overturned boat, supported by its oars, which becomes a shelter from the weather and a meeting point for castaways.
The imposing interactive art installation is on display at the Island of San Servolo until November 21, 2021, in a place symbolic of the docking of boats, a strip of land that, throughout the history of Venice, has welcomed and protected people, offering its temporary guests, a resting place where to meditate and restore energy. It is precisely in this moment, full of kindness, that this artistic installation stands out, as a safe and well-protected place: a houseboat, under whose “roof” people have the opportunity to take refuge, to regather, to reflect and reproject. A sacred living space that, considering its historical connotations, acquires a sacredness typical of the Latin Pomerio.
The project “Senza Terra / Pomerio” thus serves as a universal message of love and solidarity, it is a memorial hymn for exiled, refugees and landless people (Senza Terra) of every nation, offering an ideal sanctuary, where to find refuge under the “roof” of the sacredness of our communities.
