Until October 17, 2021, Ocean Space opens to the public again with the great sound installation “Answer to the Call” by Taloi Havini, curated by Chus Martínez and commissioned by TBA21 − Academy and co-produced with the Schmidt Ocean Institute, co-founded by Wendy Schmidt. The deconsecrated church of San Lorenzo in Venice becomes the ideal setting for Ocean Space exhibitions to highlight the era in which human actions influence and determine environmental change.
With the exhibition “The Soul Expanding Ocean # 1”, the artist Taloi Havini invites the public to reflect on these aspects and to embark on a journey into a space of deep listening together. Taloi has created a theatrical scenography composed mainly of indigo blue, aquamarine and ultramarine shades, which evoke the different depths of the water and create a link between the audience and Buka, the artist’s native land in Bougainville.
The reopening of Ocean Space also sees the second chapter of “Territorial Agency: Oceans in Transformation”, an exhibition curated by Daniela Zyman, which will instead be open until 29 August 2021. The current Territorial Agency project, commissioned by TBA21 – Academy, explores new possibilities of connection between research groups dealing with the oceans in an age of rapid change, bringing together science, arts and politics through the sharing of images, series of data and narratives.
