“Venetia Regina” is an event as part of the City of Venice’s “Venezia 1600” celebrations, open to the public through August 29, 2021 in the “D3082 Woman Art in Venice” space at Domus Civica, a non-profit association that promotes young women artists from around the world.
The exhibition by Munich-based artist Sophie Schmidt features four large-scale canvases created during her residency at the German Center for Venetian Studies in 2021.
Among the works of the painter, performer and installation artist is the canvas “Assunta” a tribute to Venice’s 1600th anniversary celebrations that draws iconographic inspiration from Titian’s famous canvas. The solo exhibition is curated by Petra Schaefer, head of artistic relations at the German Center for Venetian Studies, with the support of the German Federal Government’s Commissioner for Culture and Media and the Dr. Christiane Hackerodt Foundation for Art and Culture.
