Thanks to the fifth edition of “Etnoborder“, contemporary ethnic music resounds in the lagoon city, between the Fondamenta Cannaregio, the courtyard of Palazzo Grimani and the Combo halls. From March 11 to May 21, the event organized by Veneto Jazz explores the music of the world, traveling from Brazil and the Balkans to the Middle East.
First appointment, Friday, March 11, at Laguna Libre is staged the “Duo Hana” that comes from the encounter between the Albanian singer Hersi Matmuja and lutenist from Vicenza, Ilaria Fantin. Their voices, percussions and archlute give life to a repertoire at the same time sweet, rhythmic and dancing. They are joined by saxophonist Maurizio Camardi.
On Friday, April 22, again at Laguna Libre, the duo “Choro De Rua” will be staged, the refined Brazilian instrumental music, formed by Italian flutist Barbara Piperno and Brazilian guitarist and mandolinist Marco Ruviaro.
On Saturday, May 14, at the Combo venue, Rachele Andrioli, one of the most appreciated artists of the new Italian popular music scene, will perform her solo show “Leuca“.
On Friday, May 20th, at Laguna Libre, Nilza Costa, Brazilian singer, songwriter and composer from Salvador (Bahia), will be on stage, presenting her new album with Daniele Santimone (electric and seven-string guitars), Roberto “Red” Rossi (drums, percussion and vocals) and Mauricio Piancastelli (trumpet, effects and keyboards).
Saturday, May 21, in the splendid setting of Palazzo Grimani, the “Gafarov Ensemble” with Fakhraddin Gafarov (tar, oud, ney, balaban, vocals), Simone Amodeo (bendir, daff, zarb, darbuka, nagarà), Davide Marzagalli (alto sax, clarinet, darbuka) offers a repertoire of both cultured and popular music collected in different Middle Eastern countries including Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, the Balkans and the rich heritage of Roma music.
