In cooperation with the “Musikàmera” association, March 19 and 20, 2023 concerts by Antje Weithaas and Marie Elisabeth Hecker are staged at La Fenice Theater.
It is not easy to meet in concert halls a duo formed by violin and cello. The one formed by Antje Weithaas (violin) and Marie-Elisabeth Hecker (cello) has an extra quid because the two German artists are titled. Program ranging from serious Bach to operatic Mozart, with a detour to Eastern music.
Apart from solo recitals and chamber music performances, Weithaas has played with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Bamberg Symphony as well as with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and leading orchestras in the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Asia, with conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Neville Marriner, Marc Albrecht, Yakov Kreizberg, Sakari Oramo and Carlos Kalmar.
Hecker is the fifth of eight children of a pastor’s family in Kirchberg near Zwickau. Already at the age of five she developed a passion for cello. In 1992 she began studying this instrument with Wieland Pörner at the Robert-Schumann-Konservatorium Zwickau. Between 1999 and 2001 she won several competitions and awards. She is then trained by Prof. Peter Bruns in cello and piano trio. She participated several times in chamber music courses and master classes.
The duo’s program includes:
- Reinhold Glière, Duets for violin and cello op. 39
- Ludwig van Beethoven, Duet WoO 32
- Maurice Ravel, Sonata for violin and cello
- Zoltán Kodály, Duo op. 7 for violin and cello
