The Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art is set to celebrate a significant milestone in the spring of 2023 with the arrival of the Gemma De Angelis Testa donation, the most recent acquisition for the Gallery’s collections. The collection features a stunning selection of works by some of the most renowned contemporary artists from around the world. The donation, comprising of 105 works, is one of the most important in terms of both extent and quality since the de Lisi Usigli bequest in 1961.
The collection showcases works by seminal figures in contemporary art, including Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, and the Arte Povera masters. Visitors can explore works by Marina Abramović, Vanessa Beecroft, Candida Höfer, Mariko Mori, Shirin Neshat, and many more. The donated works span diverse techniques, cultures, and geographies, representing the essence of contemporary art.
This remarkable donation testifies to the passion of the collector, Gemma De Angelis Testa, who acquired the works over time and selected them for the exceptional donation to the City of Venice. The collection enriches the civic heritage and becomes part of the city’s history and tradition of patrons who have built and consolidated its glory over time. The arrival of the De Angelis Testa donation is expected to mark a new era for the Ca’ Pesaro Gallery, as it characterizes its collections according to new balances that shift the weight toward contemporary art.
Art lovers can explore the diversity of contemporary art at Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art, as the donated works complement and complete the Gallery’s collections of art after 1950. The exhibition runs until September 17, 2023, and it is an event that should not be missed by anyone interested in the art of the second half of the twentieth century.
