From May 14 to October 5, 2025, the Fortuny Museum presents “Alberto Rodríguez Serrano – Ars Gratia Artis Venezia”, curated by Chiara Squarcina, Cristina Da Roit, and Alberto Rodríguez Serrano himself. This highly anticipated exhibition brings to Venice the vision of one of the most compelling voices in contemporary art.
Born in Madrid in 1988, Alberto Rodríguez Serrano is an artist deeply rooted in classical technique, yet unafraid to push boundaries. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, he bridges traditional European art history with a bold, 21st-century sensibility. His accolades are impressive: the youngest living artist to be included in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection and the Vatican’s collection, with his Pietà personally presented to Pope Francis in 2017.
Ars Gratia Artis Venezia showcases two sides of Serrano’s artistic identity. On one hand, a selection of traditionally executed paintings—refined, contemplative, and permanently displayed throughout the exhibition. On the other, a series of luminescent works, brought to life through phosphorescent and fluorescent pigments. These dynamic pieces, only fully visible during scheduled performances led by the artist himself, transform with light, offering viewers an emotionally charged and immersive experience.
Serrano’s innovative use of light and pigment blurs the line between painting and performance, redefining how we experience visual art. This exhibition invites visitors into a dialogue between past and future, tradition and innovation—a must-see moment in Venice’s contemporary art scene.
