Venice once again opens its heart and canals to the Vogalonga, the spectacular non-competitive rowing event that has become a powerful symbol of love for the city, its lagoon, and its traditions. Now in its 49th edition, the Vogalonga continues to unite passion, heritage, and environmental awareness in one of the world’s most breathtaking settings.
What began as a local initiative has become an international celebration, attracting over 8,000 rowers and 2,000 boats of all kinds—from gondolas and dragon boats to kayaks and traditional Venetian craft. Enthusiasts from all over the world converge on Venice not to race, but to journey together along a 30-kilometer route that winds through the lagoon, touches charming islets, and glides through the majestic Grand Canal.
More than a sporting event, the Vogalonga is a gesture of respect—for the delicate balance of Venice’s aquatic environment and for its unique cultural history. It promotes sustainable navigation, encouraging the use of oar-powered boats to counteract the damaging effects of motorboat traffic and wave motion.
Participants—young and old, novice and expert—row side by side in an atmosphere of shared effort and joy, turning every stroke of the oar into a celebration of Venice’s soul. Vogalonga is not about winning—it’s about belonging, preserving, and experiencing the timeless magic of Venice from the water.
