As part of the symphonic season of Teatro La Fenice, conductor Manlio Benzi will lead the Orchestra of La Fenice in two compelling concerts at Teatro Malibran on June 7 and 8, 2025.
The evening opens with Fryderyk Chopin’s Concerto No. 2 in F minor op. 21, performed by Giacomo Menegardi, rising star of the piano world and winner of the 39th Venice Prize. This youthful and poetic work, rich in lyricism and subtle orchestral interplay, will be followed by Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5 in E-flat major op. 82, a masterpiece that evolves from brooding mystery to triumphant affirmation, culminating in one of the most iconic finales in the symphonic repertoire.
At the helm is Manlio Benzi, an Italian conductor known for his versatility and commitment to both symphonic and operatic literature. With a career spanning major Italian and international theaters, Benzi has conducted a wide-ranging repertoire—from Verdi and Puccini to Stravinsky and contemporary composers—earning praise for his clarity, energy, and sensitivity to both singers and instrumentalists. He has appeared at institutions such as the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Regio di Parma, and abroad in Japan, France, and Germany. His academic background includes musicology and composition studies, enhancing his analytical approach and interpretive insight.
This concert promises a rich journey through Romantic elegance and Nordic grandeur, interpreted by two artists at different but equally exciting stages of their musical careers.
