In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the death of Antonio Salieri, one of Venice’s most illustrious composers, “La Fiera di Venezia” (The Fair in Venice) returns to the stage in a dazzling revival at Teatro Goldoni. This comic opera in three acts, first performed in 1772, offers a lively and colorful portrait of 18th-century Venice—a city of canals, carnivals, and cunning love games.
With a spirited libretto, Salieri’s opera unfolds amidst the chaotic charm of a Venetian market. Audiences will be swept up in a whirlwind of romantic entanglements, social satire, and masked mischief, as three couples from the nobility, bourgeoisie, and common folk navigate rigged lotteries and mistaken identities—culminating in a joyful, celebratory finale.
Lauded for its vibrant melodies and sparkling orchestration, La Fiera di Venezia is a rarely performed gem of the operatic repertoire. This performance, the first ever in Italy since its 18th-century debut, offers a unique opportunity to rediscover Salieri’s brilliance beyond myth and hearsay.
The cast includes Fabiana Visentin, Chiara Ramello, Sara Fanin, Alessio Zanetti, Francesco Paccorini, Marton Kovacs, and Mirko Quarello. The Chamber Orchestra “Lo Splendore di San Marco” will be led by Diego Bortolato, with choral support from Stella Polare of Trivignano and choreography by Arcobaleno Danza – Venice. Stage direction is by Gaetano Ruocco Guadagno, with Enrico Trevisanato at the harpsichord.
Don’t miss this exuberant rediscovery of Salieri’s sparkling theatrical voice—a comic opera celebration in true Venetian spirit.
