This Parisian version of the waltz absorbed influences from every corner: the languor of the Boston, the fiery rhythms of gypsy music, the elegance of the bolero, and the syncopations of the foxtrot. Far from simple entertainment, it was a world of dazzling variety, where vocal virtuosity ranged from operatic flourishes to playful Tyrolean yodels.
For this program, Cyrille Dubois and Tristan Raës step away from the refined paths of the French mélodie to embrace the lighter, more exuberant repertoire of the Belle Époque and early 20th century.
