On October 4, 2025, the Teatro Goldoni will host one of the most anticipated events of the season: the Jan Garbarek Group featuring Trilok Gurtu.

For more than fifty years, Jan Garbarek has been a defining figure in European jazz. His saxophone sound—described as lyrical, hypnotic, ethereal, and deeply Scandinavian—has influenced generations of musicians. Yet, at 71, Garbarek continues to seek new challenges, constantly renewing himself through live performance: “I just try to play what I myself want to hear… when musicians feel they’re in the groove, it’s pure bliss.”

This concert brings together a stellar ensemble: Rainer Brüninghaus (piano), Garbarek’s longtime collaborator for over three decades; Yuri Daniel (bass), whose expressive style brings warmth and depth; and special guest Trilok Gurtu, the celebrated Indian percussionist whose rhythmic universe bridges continents and traditions.

Born in Oslo to a Polish father and Norwegian mother, Garbarek drew early inspiration from John Coltrane and a life-changing encounter with Ravi Shankar. Over the years, he has absorbed influences from Norwegian folk, African music, contemporary sounds, and even his daughter Anna’s electronic compositions. The result is a hybrid, boundary-crossing music that transcends genres: not about perfection, but about embracing the unknown and finding beauty in imperfection.

With his group, Garbarek creates what he calls a “craftsman’s art”—music that speaks directly to the listener’s soul. Together, they offer audiences an unforgettable journey, where jazz, world music, and improvisation merge into moments of pure transcendence.
