From November 28 to 30, 2025, the stage of the Teatro Goldoni will host Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece The Seagull, in a new production directed by Filippo Dini. This staging brings together a distinguished ensemble cast, including Virginia Campolucci, Enrica Cortese, Giuliana De Sio, Gennaro Di Biase, Filippo Dini, Giovanni Drago, Yuri Ferrini, Anagelica Leo, Fulvio Pepe, and Edoardo Sorgente.
With a translation by Danilo Macrì, scene direction by Leonardo Manza (The Spectacle of Kostya), and dramaturgical support from Carlo Orlando, the production is enriched by original music from Massimo Cordovani. Co-produced by TSV – Teatro Nazionale, Teatro Stabile di Torino – Teatro Nazionale, Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale, Teatro Stabile di Bolzano, and Teatro di Napoli – Teatro Nazionale, this staging marks a powerful collaboration across Italy’s major institutions.
The Seagull is one of Chekhov’s most incisive works, a play that confronts the absurdity of human destiny. In this bleak yet luminous vision, characters yearn for artistic and emotional fulfillment, only to be ensnared by their own limitations and the weight of disillusionment. With Giuliana De Sio in a leading role, Filippo Dini’s direction underscores the raw contemporaneity of Chekhov’s world, where aspirations clash with the inevitability of failure and desire gives way to despair.
This performance is also accessible to deaf and blind audiences and will feature English subtitles, ensuring an inclusive experience.
A rare chance to see Chekhov’s eternal drama come alive in Venice, rendered with intensity, irony, and a haunting sense of truth.
