Juraj Valčuha conducts the orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice with music by Claude Debussy and Modest Mussorgsky. The orchestral composition of the French composer that will be performed is “La mer”, widely considered to be one of the best orchestral works of the twentieth century. It follows, Mussorgsky’s most famous suite for piano “Pictures at an Exhibition”, revised by Maurice Ravel in 1922 for full symphony orchestra.
Juraj Valčuha is a Slovak conductor. He studied at the Bratislava Conservatory, then continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and later at the Paris Conservatory. He was Principal Director of the Rai National Symphony Orchestra from 2009 to 2016. He is currently the Musical Director of the San Carlo Theater in Naples, as well as First Guest conductor of the Konzerthausorchester in Berlin.
