As everywhere else in the world, Venice celebrates the transition from the old to the new year with a series of foods, festivals and ancient traditions. The Italian word for New Year’s Day is “Capodanno”.
Usually the toast of good luck to the New Year, illuminated by fireworks, characterizes the New Year’s Eve in Venice. At the stroke of midnight, St. Mark’s Basin lights up thanks to the fireworks display, designed to welcome the most anticipated night of the year in an exciting and evocative setting.
In addition to the public manifestation of fireworks, there are also many fireworks shows at private parties, which frame the midnight chimes and reflect light effects on the water.
But 2020 is a particularly complex year. We are living in a historical moment of health difficulty and it is difficult to celebrate. Never as this year, we address to everyone an affectionate greeting and best wishes for good health.
