For the thematic exhibition at Palazzo Bonvicini, Fondation Valmont asked four contemporary artists to present their own version of the story of “Alice in Wonderland”, a mirrored fairy tale with infinite facets, whose imagery goes beyond epochs, keeping intact all its topical character.

An original collaborative project: “Alice in Doomedland” brings together Didier Guillon, the artist couple Isao and Stephanie Blake and Silvano Rubino. Each of them produced a unique installation for the exhibition, tailor-made for the majestic space of Palazzo Bonvicini. In addition to the individual works, a great collective work is also presented, which brings together the approaches of each in a common work. “Alice in Doomedland” is in fact the result of a demanding teamwork, born from the meeting upstream of the artists, who, on the occasion of a special workshop, talked about the echo in them aroused by the fervent world of Alice, guided by reading by the editors.

The Venetian artist Silvano Rubino trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice specializes in painting, scenography, sculpture, photography, glass art and, more recently, video. Isao, a Catalan artist who draws inspiration from Japanese calligraphy and from Japan, the country where his mother is from, specializes in painting, sculpture, illustration, installations, animation. Stephanie Blake, an American artist who lives in Paris, is an illustrator and author of children’s books. Didier Guillon comes from a long lineage of artists, such as the sculptor Alphonse Lami, and collectors, such as the famous art dealer Charles Sedelmeyer.

Curators of the exhibition are Francesca Giubilei, an expert in contemporary glass art and artistic director of SPARC*, and Luca Berta, author of articles published in international magazines and of various works on art.
