From October 3 to 5, 2025, the Malibran Theater will present España, a vibrant ballet evening performed by the Compagnia Larreal of the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma, one of Spain’s leading academies of dance.
Conceived as a journey through Spain’s rich choreographic traditions, España is structured around four original creations, each highlighting a different facet of the nation’s dance heritage. The flamenco school is explored in its purest form, free from modern touristic stylizations, revealing its roots in Arab, Byzantine, and gypsy culture. The bolera school follows, with its repertoire of dances that evolved into the social dances still practiced today. Classical Spanish dance, with its unique grammar and refined technique, is also celebrated. The evening concludes with a dazzling synthesis that fuses all three schools into a spectacular finale.
The program includes Baroque Mosaic (Antonio Pérez), a dialogue between Bach and Spanish baroque composer José de Nebra; Sevillanas de autor (Irene Tena, Albert Hernández), inspired by traditional Andalusian forms; Amalurra (Eduardo Martinez), which draws on Basque folk traditions; Entre cuerdas (Axel Galán), a virtuosic creation set to music by Víctor Guadiana and Alberto Iglesias; Rest (Antonio Pérez), which returns to the interplay of Bach and Nebra; and Nothing more and nothing less (Miguel Fuente), set to the music of Carlos Nuñez.
With a total running time of 1 hour and 35 minutes (40 minutes first part, 20-minute interval, 35 minutes second part), España offers audiences an authentic and exhilarating immersion into the past and present of Spanish dance.
