The 13th International Festival of Contemporary Dance, entitled “ON BEcOMING A SmArT GOd-dESS”, directed by Marie Chouinard and organized by the Venice Biennale, will be held from 21 to 30 June 2019. During the festival, 29 performances by 22 choreographers and companies from around the world will be presented, including 5 world premieres, 9 Italian premieres and 8 original creations for outdoor theater in the heart of the city.
Protagonists of this edition will be Alessandro Sciarroni (Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement), the duo Théo Mercier and Steven Michel, awarded with the Silver Lion, William Forsythe, Nicola Gunn, Nicolás Poggi and Luciano Rosso, Michelle Moura, Katia-Marie Germain, Simona Bertozzi, Luke George and Daniel Kok, Giuseppe Chico and Barbara Matijević, Doris Uhlich, Bára Sigfúsdóttir, Sasha Waltz, Daniel Léveillé, Maria Chiara de ‘Nobili.
There will also be numerous encounters and conversations with the artists at the Giardino Marceglia of the Arsenale to foster a relationship open to knowledge and debate, with a discerning audience open to research into the various languages of expression.
Finally, some of the guest artists including the Biennale College dancers and choreographers will bring the dance directly into the flow of daily life establishing a dialogue with the outside world in their creations, short choreographic pieces, to be performed in Via Garibaldi, on a stage set up for the occasion.
