As part of the Folies Parisiennes series, the Palazzetto Bru Zane presents the concert Oh là là on October 3, 2025. Performed by the acclaimed Duo Contraste—tenor Cyrille Dubois and pianist Tristan Raës—the evening offers a delightful journey through songs for voice and piano by Chaminade, Christiné, Danglas, Lecocq, Renard, and others.
The waltz, forever linked to the glittering ballrooms of Vienna and the Strauss dynasty, found a new identity in Paris at the dawn of the 20th century. In the French capital, it became a song—seductive and charming, sometimes tinged with melancholy, and at moments so poignant as to move listeners to tears. This Parisian version of the waltz absorbed influences from every corner: the languor of the Boston, the fiery rhythms of gypsy music, the elegance of the bolero, and the syncopations of the foxtrot. Far from simple entertainment, it was a world of dazzling variety, where vocal virtuosity ranged from operatic flourishes to playful Tyrolean yodels.
For this program, Cyrille Dubois and Tristan Raës step away from the refined paths of the French mélodie to embrace the lighter, more exuberant repertoire of the Belle Époque and early 20th century. With humor, elegance, and unflagging energy, they revive songs that once captivated Parisian audiences with their mix of sophistication and whimsy.
The concert will conclude with a convivial toast, extending the festive spirit of a repertoire that proves as irresistible today as it was more than a century ago.
