“Don Carlos” is a five-act grand opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi to a French-language libretto by Joseph Méry and Camille du Locle, based on the dramatic play of the same name by Friedrich Schiller.

The story takes place in France and Spain around 1560 and shows the confrontation between the infant Don Carlos and his father Philip II, king of Spain, and the conflict between State/Empire and Church.

Conductor is Myung-Whun Chung, directed by Robert Carsen, sets and costumes of the Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg and Aalto-Theater Essen by Radu Boruzescu and Petra Reinhardt. Chorus master is Claudio Marino Moretti. The performance lasts about 3 hours 40 minutes.
