In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Guido Alberto Fano, a special concert will take place on June 15, 2025 at the Sale Apollinee of Teatro La Fenice, in collaboration with Musikàmera and the Archivio Musicale Guido Alberto Fano Onlus. Pianist Giuseppe Guarrera will perform a rich and emotionally intense program that explores both Romantic masterpieces and Fano’s rarely performed work.
The evening opens with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata No. 26 in E-flat major, Op. 81a Les Adieux, a piece that blends narrative drama and expressive nuance. Guarrera will then interpret Franz Liszt’s transcription of Wagner’s Death of Isolde, followed by the powerful and virtuosic Mephisto Waltz. The program continues with Ferruccio Busoni’s Two Elegies, a contemplative and visionary set that bridges Romanticism and modernity. The concert concludes with Guido Alberto Fano’s Sonata in E major, a profound and sophisticated work that exemplifies the Italian composer’s unique voice within early 20th-century musical currents.
Giuseppe Guarrera, born in Sicily in 1991, is one of the most acclaimed Italian pianists of his generation. A laureate of the Montreal International Competition and a graduate of the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin, Guarrera has performed with prestigious orchestras and at renowned venues across Europe. Known for his lyrical touch and intellectual depth, he brings a rare sensitivity to both classical repertoire and lesser-known gems.
This tribute promises to be a moving homage to a pivotal figure in Italian music history.
