On December 17 and 18, 2025, St. Mark’s Basilica will once again be filled with the timeless sound of Venetian sacred music for the traditional Christmas Concert, presented in collaboration with the Procuratoria di San Marco. Under the direction of Marco Gemmani, the prestigious Cappella Marciana, one of the oldest musical institutions in the world, will lead the audience on an evocative journey through the liturgical soundscape of seventeenth-century Venice.
The ensemble features an exceptional roster of voices: sopranos Maria Chiara Ardolino, Caterina Chiarcos, Maria Clara Maiztegui, Elena Modena, Maria Cristina Rinaldi; altos Maria Baldo, Claudia Graziadei, Liu Rundong, Monica Serretti; tenors Jake Dyble, Enrico Imbalzano, Riccardo Martin, José Sanchez; and basses Giovanni Bertoldi, Luca Scapin, Samy Timin, Marcin Wyszkowski. They are joined by Stefano Pratissoli on violone and Alvise Mason on the organ, completing the ensemble with the warm instrumental colors typical of Venetian liturgical tradition.
The program includes Monferrato Christmas, Christmas Vespers, and the reconstruction of a Christmas Vespers at San Marco in 1675, offering a rare opportunity to experience the music as it might have resonated in the Basilica during the height of the Venetian Republic. Through meticulous research and performance practice, the concert recreates the splendor, solemnity, and spiritual intensity of the historic San Marco liturgy.
A yearly highlight in Venice’s cultural calendar, the Christmas Concert celebrates the enduring bond between music, devotion, and the unique acoustics of the Basilica.
Entrance is by invitation of the Procuratoria di San Marco.
