On October 9, 2025, the Teatro La Fenice will host an Extraordinary Concert under the baton of Riccardo Muti, one of the most celebrated conductors of our time. The Neapolitan maestro, whose distinguished career has made him a reference point in the international music world, returns to Venice to lead the Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra, the ensemble he founded in 2004 to nurture and promote the finest young Italian musicians.
The evening’s program opens with Beethoven’s Coriolanus Overture, Op. 62, a work of dramatic tension and noble restraint that captures the tragic essence of Heinrich Joseph von Collin’s play. It will be followed by Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 2 in D major, KV 314, one of the cornerstones of the flute repertoire. The soloist will be Karl-Heinz Schütz, principal flute of the Vienna Philharmonic, whose artistry and refinement are internationally acclaimed.
The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92, a work Richard Wagner famously described as “the apotheosis of the dance”. With its rhythmic vitality and inexhaustible energy, the symphony remains one of Beethoven’s most beloved and frequently performed masterpieces.
Riccardo Muti’s deep affinity with the Viennese Classical repertoire, his long-standing dedication to Beethoven and Mozart, and his unique ability to inspire young musicians promise an unforgettable evening. This concert not only celebrates the timeless genius of these composers but also highlights the future of orchestral music through the excellence of the Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra.
