From December 12 to 14, 2025, the Teatro Goldoni will host a new production of Carlo Goldoni’s classic comedy Sior Todaro Brontolon, adapted by Piermario Vescovo and directed by Paolo Valerio. The production stars the acclaimed Franco Branciaroli, alongside Piergiorgio Fasolo, Alessandro Albertin, Maria Grazia Plos, Ester Galazzi, Riccardo Maranzana, Valentina Violo, Emanuele Fortunati, Andrea Germani, and Roberta Colacino, in collaboration with I Piccoli di Podrecca. Original music is composed by Antonio Di Pofi, and the production is a collaboration between Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia, Teatro degli Incamminati, and Centro Teatrale Bresciano.
Sior Todaro Brontolon is a comedy that has delighted audiences since its premiere, centered on a man who is stingy, imperious, irritating with servants, oppressive with his son and granddaughter, and distrustful of the world. At first glance, Sior Todaro seems impossible to empathize with, yet Goldoni’s genius transforms him into a character of enduring comic and human appeal.
In this new staging, Franco Branciaroli, one of contemporary Italian theater’s greatest actors, brings an innovative interpretation to the “brontolon,” revealing layers of vulnerability, wit, and subtle irony beneath his cantankerous exterior. Under Paolo Valerio’s direction, the production balances humor and insight, making Todaro’s flaws both recognizable and irresistibly entertaining.
This revival celebrates Goldoni’s enduring legacy, offering audiences a chance to experience the timeless charm and brilliance of one of the greatest Italian playwrights, brought vividly to life by one of the most compelling actors of our time.
