The “Su e Zo per i Ponti” (Up and down the bridges) has now become a traditional event which has been taking place in April through the historic center of the city of Venice since 1975. The event is at its 42nd edition and is a non-competitive walk in the name of aggregation, friendship and solidarity.
The complete route is on average 12 km long and always has the start and finish in Piazza San Marco, in front of the Doge’s Palace. The short route of about 6 km is departing from the railway station square. The participants follow a characteristic route, different every year, which leads them through streets, squares and bridges. A route that touches the whole city, that winds through the lesser-known corners of the city, discovering a different Venice, without neglecting the places that make it famous in the world.
The event involves 10,000-12,000 participants every year and around 500 volunteers serve in the refreshment points and along the two proposed routes. Participation is open to everyone, people of any age, families, school groups, sports groups and associations.
Upon arrival in Piazza San Marco the participants receive a souvenir medal and the large groups a commemorative plaque of the event. Any profits from the event are donated to charity.
