Ton Koopman is a Dutch conductor, organist and harpsichordist. Born in 1944, Ton Koopman received a classical education. Later he studied musicology, organ with Simon Jansen and harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt. He specialized in Baroque music and received the prize of excellence in both instruments.
During his career as an organist, harpsichordist, director and researcher, Johann Sebastian Bach became the epicenter of his work and life. But it also gave Bach’s predecessor Dietrich Buxtehude his legitimate place in the history of music. “Bring ancient music to life in a unique and recognizable Koopman style,” wrote one American critic. Koopman remains faithful to the composer’s ideas: Bach should sound like Bach, Buxtehude like Buxtehude.
