In the evocative setting of the Cetacean Gallery at the Natural History Museum of Venice Giancarlo Ligabue, the award ceremony for the winning photos of the 14th edition of the International Underwater Photography Contest ABYSS City of Venice 2021 organized by Abissi Underwater Photo Venice was held on Saturday, October 23.
Despite the difficulty in traveling and reaching the usual shooting destinations preferred by underwater photographers, 637 photos were submitted by 89 photographers from 17 different countries around the world. Among the works of the highest quality it was not easy to choose the 3 winning images of the 9 different categories. The jury of experts in the field composed of Davide Lopreste, Fabio Iardino and Marcello Di Francesco selected the 27 shots to be exhibited in the museum.
A special prize to Dr. Claudio Zori who received the artwork “Noguchi Checker” in the “DSLR Mediterranean Macro” category. Mirco Zanni (DSLR Tropical Wide), Massimo Zannini (DSLR Tropical Macro), Enrico Somogyi (Compact Tropical and Mediterranean Wide), Nicholas Samaras (DSLR Mediterranean Wide), Galice Hoarau (Fish), Andrea Falcomatà (Compact Tropical Macro) and Rafaella Spagnolello (Compact Mediterranean Macro) are the winners in the other categories.
