Cinema Barch-in, the first drive-in by boat in Italy, returns for its fourth consecutive year from July 30 to August 6, 2023. The enchanting setting of the Arsenale in Venice will come alive with six evenings of open-air cinema, live music, comedy, and special guests, all curated by the FEMS du cinéma cultural association.
This year’s red thread is “Venice: Islands and Non-Places“, a journey that retraces the traces of Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, celebrating the centenary of his birth. As you embark on a cinematic adventure, you will explore islands and cities to be saved, mysterious worlds, and fragments of memory—all under the summer sun of a time long past.
The program boasts a diverse selection of films, documentaries, animations, and short films that showcase the variety of styles and genres that Cinema Barch-in is known for. From the classics to the latest Oscar-nominated features, every movie lover is sure to find something to captivate their hearts.
New artistic partnerships bring exciting additions to the lineup, including titles from the renowned CinemAmbiente Festival in Turin and the screening of “After Sun”, a film nominated for an Oscar in 2023, thanks to the support of MUBI.
In addition to enjoying the shows from the comfort of your boat or the large pier of the Arsenale, this year offers gastronomic delights too! Order an aperitif and dinner directly from your boat, creating a true drive-in cinema experience on the water.
For a truly immersive adventure, take a sailboat journey aboard Oedipus Rex, the vessel that once hosted Pier Paolo Pasolini and Maria Callas, with a final landing at Cinema Barch-in, followed by dinner on board.
