DOMUS GRIMANI 1594 – 2019 is the exceptional exhibition that celebrates the return to Palazzo Grimani after more than four centuries of the collection of classical statues that belonged to the Patriarch of Aquileia Giovanni Grimani. Preserved in the family palace in Santa Maria Formosa until the end of 1500, it was then donated to the Serenissima Republic of Venice by the will of Giovanni after his death.
The centerpiece of DOMUS GRIMANI 1594 – 2019 is the reconstruction of one of the most significant episodes of European museology: the Tribune of Patriarch Giovanni. Still intact in its architectural structure and accompanied by the exhibition of furnishings and works in the previous rooms, the intention is to recreate the decoration of an aristocratic residence of the sixteenth century and thus restoring to visitors the atmosphere of a place returned to the protagonist of the Venetian cultural offer through a setting inspired by the aesthetics of the “house-museum”.
Curated by Daniele Ferrara, director of the “Polo Museale del Veneto” and Toto Bergamo Rossi, director of “Venetian Heritage”, produced by “Civita Tre Venezie”, under the patronage of the Veneto Region, realized in collaboration with UNESCO, with the support of Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, Gagosian Gallery, Michelangelo Foundation and Lady Monika del Campo Bacardi, the exhibition remains open to the public until May 30, 2021.
