From March 17 to 20, 2022 at the Goldoni Theater in Venice, the show “Eichmann. Dove inizia la notte” (Eichmann. Where the night begins) will be staged.
Directed by Mauro Avogadro, the show is a theatrical dialogue of unprecedented power, in which Ottavia Piccolo and Paolo Pierobon, respectively in the roles of the Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt and the Nazi hierarch Adolf Eichmann, retrace the tragedy of the Shoah. The one-act play with production year of 2020 is 80 minutes long.
Who was Adolf Eichmann really? What kind of personality was hidden behind the Nazi uniform of the man who conceived the final solution and organized in detail the massacre of six million Jews? Florentine writer Stefano Massini tries to give an answer, in the dramaturgy he has realized starting from the writings of the Jewish philosopher, from the minutes of the interrogations in Jerusalem – where Eichmann was tried after his arrest in 1960 in Argentina – from the acts of the trial. Ottavia Piccolo and Paolo Pierobon reconstruct step by step the career and rise of the hierarch, outlining the portrait of a mediocre man, careerist and opportunist, and thus opening the door to a disorienting perspective: Eichmann is not a monster, but a frighteningly normal man, devoid of any talent, capable of astonishing only for pettiness. But basically, it is precisely here that evil takes shape: in the most common and unsuspected human smallness.
