You cannot leave Venice without first getting to know its romantic side: a gondola serenade with musicians, who will make the atmosphere even more magical.
Gondola musicians always go around the city center with or without the accordion over their shoulder and are always cheerful. If they are serious, they always have that air of the schoolboy before an exam on which they will surely make a good impression. They usually walk quickly but when they meet someone they know, they stop suddenly and smile exaggeratedly like when you meet a tenant with whom you get along very well. With a proud look, they also practice on the street, singing songs in a low voice. On the other hand, when they enter the hidden calle, the decibels start.
Besides the gondolier, there is always a musician singing and one playing. Lately, musicians have been trying to modernize by getting into the gondola with amplified acoustic guitars. They always go in search of some song that goes out of the usual repertoire but normally people do not know the song and everything ends there with some regret.
They have their repertoire composed of very few Venetian songs, the best known. The rest are famous Italian songs. As if it were a theme song, they finish the performance by singing the famous song “Ciao Venezia!”. The repertoire of Venetian songs includes: “La Biondina in Gondoéta“, “El Gondolier, Pope Ohe!“, “La Gondoliera“, “Marieta monta in Gondola“, “Vecio Gondolier“.
Now, imagine admiring characteristic views, hidden canals and grandiose palaces wrapped in a magical atmosphere, aboard an elegant gondola, lulled by the quiet rocking of the waves, listening to the typical songs of the Venetian tradition thanks to the presence of a local singer accompanied by the characteristic sound of an accordion or the sweet sound of a guitar.
