Opening during the Venice Art Biennale 2022, the exhibition “Human Brains: It Begins with an Idea” is curated by Udo Kittelmann in collaboration with Taryn Simon. Set up on the three floors of Ca’ Corner della Regina, it is the result of a long and in-depth research conducted with Fondazione Prada and the scientific committee.
On the ground floor of the building, a series of projections introduces visitors to the anatomy, physiology and imaging of the brain and explanations of its development and functioning. This section also introduces the public to the principles, structures and mysteries of the brain, the organ at the center of the exhibition.
On the first and second floors, more than 110 objects encode centuries of attempts to understand the human brain. This selection includes historical artifacts, drawings, paintings, prints, and books that mark some of the most significant moments in a millennial journey of discovery while highlighting otherwise forgotten chapters of history such as Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations, the Italian Renaissance, the Japanese Edo Period, and even imaging techniques developed in the last thirty years.
