“Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno” (The Triumph of Time and Disillusion) is an oratorio composed by Georg Friedrich Händel in 1707, and it is set to be staged at the historic Malibran Theater in Venice in May and June 2023. The work tells the story of the triumph of time and disillusion over beauty and pleasure, exploring themes of morality and human nature.
Conducting the new “Fondazione Teatro La Fenice” production and the first Venetian performance of “Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno” is conductor Andrea Marcon, an internationally renowned musician from Treviso. Direction, sets and costumes are by Saburo Teshigawara, with Rihoko Sato as assistant choreographer. The cast features some of the most talented and acclaimed baroque singers of our time. The role of “Beauty” will be played by the soprano Silvia Frigato, who regularly performs in the most prestigious Italian and European festivals and venues. The role of “Pleasure” will be sung by mezzosoprano Giuseppina Bridelli, who belongs to a generation of young Italian artists who stand out for their interpretation and specialization in early music and romantic opera. The role of “Time” will be played by Polish tenor Krystian Adam, known for his powerful and nuanced performances, while the role of “Disillusion” will be played by Valeria Girardello (contralto), who graduated with honors from the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice and later specialized at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
