Director Pier Luigi Pizzi’s two-act play “La dolce ala della giovinezza” (Sweet bird of youth) will be staged at the Malibran Theater from Feb. 23-26, 2023.
Written in 1952 by Tennessee Williams and debuted on Broadway in 1959, the play is about gigolo Chance Wayne who returns to his hometown in Florida with fading star Alexandra Del Lago to try to get back what he left behind in his youth, Heavenly Finley, his first love.
Elena Sofia Ricci plays alcoholic and depressed movie star Alexandra del Lago, a character on the edge of delirium, on the edge of the abyss, fleeing what she believes to be a failure of her latest film. She seeks a remedy for loneliness in the arms of the young gigolo. Played by Gabriele Anagni, the young and handsome man is a failed actor seeking revival but destined for a sad end. At least until the twist imagined by Tennessee Williams that subverts the protagonist’s fate.
Produced by “Fondazione teatro della Toscana” and “Best Live“, the cast includes Chiara Degani, Flavio Francucci, Giorgio Sales, Alberto Penna, Valentina Martone, Eros Pascale, and Marco Fanizzi. Music is by Stefano Mainetti, light designer Pietro Sperduti.
