La Peste di Camus

La peste di Camus
a show at Goldoni Theater directed by Serena Sinigaglia
La Peste di Camus - Serena Sinigaglia

From March 10 to 13, 2022 at the Goldoni Theater in Venice goes on stage the show “La peste di Camus – Il tentativo di essere uomini” (The Plague of Camus – The attempt to be men).

Starting from the novel by Albert Camus that more than anyone else explores the human soul through the story of an extreme moment of absolute emergency, the Milanese theater director Serena Sinigaglia presents a new stage version of “La Peste” (The Plague), involving in the adaptation the playwright Emanuele Aldrovandi.

Through the director’s gaze emerges the humanity of an amusing, surprising, moving and exciting Camus: the French author looks without ever judging, with ever new eyes to propose a possible direction, a sense in the chaos, a brake on fear. The secular and earthly love is the unexpected protagonist of this story, the thread that unites the strange events that took place in Oran in Algeria, in an undefined period of the 1940s.

On the stage move the five main characters wanted by Camus: Rieux, the doctor, Tarrou, the historian, Rambert, the journalist, Cottard, the businessman, Grand, the employee. Around them the human universe of the co-protagonists: the porter, Father Paneloux, the prefect and others.

Just published, the work that is part of the so-called “Cycle of the revolt” had a great success coming to sell in the first two years 160 thousand copies and winning the ‘Prix des Critiques’.
