A Venetian director for a Venetian author. The Goldoni theater in Venice is staging “L’attesa” (The Waiting) by the Veronese writer Remo Binosi, directed by Michela Cescon from Treviso. Two performers much loved by the public such as, Anna Foglietta and Paola Minaccioni, for the first time together on stage to give body and voice to the noblewoman Cornelia and the servant Rosa, are chosen.
Characterized by a great dramatic force, the text is capable of an involvement to which it is difficult to remain indifferent. Although the action is set in the ‘700, themes and contents are still universal. The relationship between servant and mistress, the double, the great seducer Casanova, motherhood, evil, death alternate with a sudden change of narrative register, from comedy to drama, from noir to tragedy. The language is original and surprising, with a natural comic vis that guarantees a certain grip on the audience.
The peculiarity of Cescon’s staging is that the action is totally focused on the two protagonists Rosa and Cornelia, two women who are estranged and locked up for nine months to hide a pregnancy, and on the evolution of their relationship during the forced enclosure. The characters are empathetic, emotional, real. And the audience suffers with them, loves them, participates first with one, then with another, then with both.
