Immerse yourself in the captivating world of “Luciano Baldessari. Architectures for the Stage” exhibition, on display at the Giorgio Cini Foundation until November 26, 2023, as part of the Architecture Biennale 2023. This exhibition celebrates the life and innovative contributions of Luciano Baldessari (1896-1982), an architect and designer whose work has often been overlooked in the annals of the 20th century.
Curated by Anna Chiara Cimoli, the exhibition showcases a remarkable collection of drawings that seamlessly blend dance, theater, painting, and music into a spatial vision. Baldessari’s artistic approach reflects a dynamic and composite apparatus, where past experiences are reworked and brought into the present.
The exhibition highlights Baldessari’s scenographic production from the 1920s to the 1940s, featuring works that were commissioned by renowned figures such as Max Reinhardt, Erwin Piscator, Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone, Tatiana Pavlova, Enzo Ferrieri, and Riccardo Gualino. These designs offer a glimpse into Baldessari’s avant-garde sensibilities and his ability to create immersive and transformative stage architectures.
The exhibition also showcases the collaborative efforts of Baldessari and Baldessari in creating an engaging installation that breathes life into the artist’s scenographic masterpieces. Drawing from the collection of CASVA (Centre for Advanced Studies of Visual Arts, a cultural institute of the City of Milan), this exhibition sheds light on Baldessari’s creative vision and his impact on the fields of architecture and design.
