Portuguese singer Mariza will be in concert at Teatro Malibran on March 29, 2023. Signed by Veneto Jazz in collaboration with Fondazione di Venezia and Teatro Stabile del Veneto, the event is curated by and as part of “Incroci di civiltà“, the International Literature Festival organized by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the City of Venice.
Mariza has turned out to be a great international artist, very original and extremely gifted, and from whom much more to expect in the future. This young girl originally from Mozambique, who grew up in Mouraria, a working-class neighborhood in Lisbon, cultivated the roots of her musical culture to become a universal artist capable of opening up to the world, without ever losing her Portuguese identity.
It all started with her first studio album “Fado em Mim“, released in 2001, which quickly led her to a series of highly successful international appearances – the Québec Summer Festival, receiving the event’s First Prize (Most Outstanding Performance), New York’s Central Park, the Hollywood Bowl, the Royal Festival Hall, the Womad Festival – and finally earned her the BBC Radio 3 award for Best European Artist in the “World Music” category.
Mariza’s career is studded with successes, including multi-platinum albums and appearances on some of the world’s most important stages: Paris’s Olympia, Frankfurt’s Alte Oper, London’s Royal Festival Hall, Amsterdam’s Le Carré, Barcelona’s Palau de la Música, Sydney Opera House, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, and Los Angeles’s Walt Disney Concert Hall – in the latter case with a set specially designed for her by one of the world’s finest architects, Frank Gehry.
