At the Venice Art Biennale 2022, the Scotland and Venice partnership presents the new body of work “deep dive (pause) uncoiling memory” by artist Alberta Whittle. Located at the Docks Cantieri Cucchini in San Pietro di Castello, a fully accessible space between the Biennale’s main venues, the Giardini and the Arsenale, the exhibition is open to the public until November 27, 2022.
Comprising tapestry, film and sculpture, spanning two rooms of the former shipyard, within the purple washed walls, the artist’s new work rings out as a beacon of hope to a world crying out for change.
At a time in history when it is not enough for the world to simply acknowledge global injustice, this extraordinary exhibition reveals contested and difficult stories, creating an open space for conversation, hope, healing and reconciliation.
