Seagulls in Venice

Seagulls in Venice
Meeting at Natural History Museum

As in other Italian cities, also in Venice there has been a strong demographic explosion of the seagull, in particular in the last decade. About 2700 seagulls were surveyed in the historic center of Venice in June 2018. The increased presence of this species in the historic center, favored by a greater availability of food and a lower presence of predators, however, involves problems of cohabitation and some inconveniences.

The Museum offers a meeting to illustrate the results of a project that monitored the presence of the seagulls in the historic center, before and after the start of the new system of separate waste collection introduced by the Veritas municipal company. There will also be a workshop for families and some information points to make citizens aware of the importance of separate waste collection and the behavior to be adopted to limit the presence of seagulls.

In collaboration with Veritas, a public multiutility that manages urban hygiene, and with Corila, a non-profit association of the Venice University, some experts will illustrate the waste management system and the presence of seagulls in the city.

To take part in the conferences, it is necessary to pick up the free pass at the Museum ticket office until all available seats are available. The online registration will be active from February 4 to 8.
