The Su e zo per i ponti (lit. Up and down the bridges) is a traditional event of Venice consisting in a non-competitive walk of solidarity that since 1975 takes place through the historic center of the city of Venice in spring, usually in April.
Participation is open to everyone. People of all ages, families, school groups, sports groups can participate. The complete route is 12 km long on average, and always starts and finishes in Piazza San Marco, in front of the Palazzo Ducale. The participants follow a characteristic route, different every year, that takes them through calli (streets), campi (squares) and ponti (bridges), through a route that touches the whole city. Every year, on average, more than ten thousand people participate, who receive a souvenir medal at the arrival in Piazza San Marco. The profits of the event are donated to charitable projects.
