After the great successes of “Materassi Sisters“, “Arsenic and Old Lace“, “Così parlò Bellavista“, director Geppy Gleijeses brings the play “Testimone d’accusa” (Witness for the Prosecution) to the stage at the Malibran Theater from March 23-26, 2023.
Agatha Christie‘s 1925 tale was adapted for film by the great Billy Wilder and starred Charles Laughton, Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Power.
Repeatedly imitated but never surpassed, amid suspense, intrigue, and mysteries that turn the tables, this masterful courtroom drama features a classic “double twist” ending.
The play features a great cast: Giorgio Ferrara as lawyer Sir Wilfrid, Vanessa Gravina as the accused’s wife Romaine and Giulio Corso as the accused Leonard Vole. Completing the cast are actors Bruno Crucitti, Sergio Mancinelli, Erika Puddu, Paola Sambo, Leonardo Sbragia, Antonio Tallura, Mohamed Yaser, plus 6 jurors chosen from the audience before the performance.
Plot: Leonard Vole is arrested for the murder of wealthy Emily French. Shortly before her death the old lady, unaware that the man was married, had named him her principal heir: it is therefore natural that he should be the prime suspect in the heinous crime. However, he will be overwhelmed by the testimony of his wife Romaine, who instead of moving to defend her husband will prove to be an effective witness for the prosecution…
